Fluorites specimens from this occurrence are usually small, less than an inch, and extremely clear.  The site is well know by those who specialize in fluorites while seldom know to more general mineral collectors.  Pieces from Walworth are very difficult to obtain due to the site's lack of productivity and its seldom being open to the collecting public.  Club trips are sometimes permitted to the site.  All these specimens have been self collected over the past decade.

OKP-398

OKP-398    Celestine     Dolomite Products Quarry (Penfield Quarry), Penfield,  Monroe County, New York.  Ex. John Davis collection.  For a western New York quarry collector this is the rare specimen to get.  It is composed interconnected, water clear celestines attached to one another by quartz plates and small stalactites.  Some areas appear to be casts but I am not sure of this.  The piece measures 6.6 x 4.7 x 2.8 cm overall.  It is a floater but a couple of small natural contacts can be seen on close inspection.  Damage-free.  $140

OKO-542     Fluorite     Walworth Quarry, Walworth, New York.  Ex. Jay Walter collection.  These are coveted specimens that are always pricy.  This is a very large cube for the occurrence measuring in at 2.5 x 1.7 x 1.5 cm on edges.  The piece is 6 x 3.4 x 3 cm.  The backside is rough from contacts but the front is very aesthetic and free of any damage.  The piece is a floater and really needs a base or stand to display well.  Water clear!  $750

OKN-899

Color is actually a light blue NOT light purple.

OKN-899    Fluorite    Walworth Quarry, Walworth, New York.  Collected by Michael and Jay Walter.  This is a very large crystal that measures 4.6 x 4 x 3 cm.  It is not a full cube but it is complete, as found.  Cleaved on bottom with some dolomite matrix remaining attached.  All sides, other than base, are complete but vary in their luster.  Some faces are etched and others glassy smooth.  Sits nicely ad displays well from any direction.  Better in-hand than seen in the photos.  Lots of gemmy regions, few internal fractures, so it is certainly facet grade material.  Very minor edge chatter visible with magnification (tough to see even in blown up images).  This is a fine, desirable example of material that is seldom available in specimens larger than thumbnail sizes.  $600

OKN-900

OKN-900    Fluorite    Walworth Quarry, Walworth, New York.  Collected by Michael and Jay Walter.  This is one of the nicest thumbnail sized examples of this material that we have had in years.  Dolomite attachments on base and back make it challenging to show the clarity of this fine piece in the images.  It is glassy on all surfaces, shows some stepped growth and has only one internal flaw running parallel and along matrix.  Impressive in-hand.  One very tiny rub can be placed to back.   2.1 cm on edge.  3 x 3 x 2 in longest dimensions.  Will fit in a 1" x 1" for competition.  A very fine piece!  $450

OKN-901

OKN-901    Fluorite    Walworth Quarry, Walworth, New York.  Collected by Michael and Jay Walter.  This piece measures 3 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm (crystal is 1.7 cm on edge).  It has surfaces that are glassy and others that are frosted from contacts.  These contacts are casts after what must have been anhydrite or maybe celestine.  Transparent except at the small area of base where it was on matrix. Minor chipping as seen in image.  Overall condition is good.  $150

Back or bottom

OKK-655    Calcite on Dolomite      Penfield Quarry, Penfield, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Ernie and Vera Schlichter collection.   This is the nicest example of this common mineral that I have seen from Penfield.  The bowl shaped piece has buff colored translucent crystals to 1 cm on edge with small similar colored calcite crystals coating some areas of them.  The specimen more three dimensional than it appears even having stalactite like stacks of dolomite.  8.5 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm overall.  Back side is well crystallized too.  $190

OKK-648    Calcite on Dolomite     RESERVED     Penfield Quarry, Penfield, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.   A large displayable crystal of translucent calcite on dolomite.  This double terminated crystal measures 6.5 cm and is firmly attached to crystal covered dolostone.  The piece measures 7.6 x 6 x 4.3 cm.  There are contacts to some areas of the matrix but all look to be healed and coated by shiny micro dolomite crystals giving the specimen the look of a floater piece.  Some Styrofoam on base areas where it sits.  There could be a tip rub.  It is difficult for me to determine even with magnification.  In any case it isn't a cleave of something detectable without very close inspection.  One minor rub on front.  These calcites are normally only up to 2 cm and that's why this noteworthy piece is in my collection.  I have only seen one better and it is photographed in my book, now in the NYS Museum.  Just about the same size, shape, etc but it sits better for display.  I would be a close call.  Multi stepped termination on base front and some on backside but on top termination.  Great piece!  $250

OKK-593

OKK-593     Fluorite  with Calcite    Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Collected by Michael Walter.  A great TN sized example.  Two crystals here are in parallel growth and flanked by tiny calcite crystals.  This piece is a damage free floater....highly unusual for this location as almost all crystals are found on  matrix.  3 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm overall.  Crystals are gemmy and have very slight hydrocarbon coatings on some faces.  This is a competition grade fluorite TN at a down to earth price.  $575

OKK-594

OKK-594     Fluorite     Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Collected by Michael Walter.  This miniature to small cabinet sized piece is mostly matrix but it does have a 1 cm on edge complex cube sitting up high on the piece.  The crystal is water clear.  Very nice example with no damage.  $150

OKK-647

OKK-647     Fluorite      RESERVED    Penfield Quarry, Penfield, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  This crystal is only about 3/4th complete but what is here is nice.  No damage, light purple/ blue tint, gemmy with moderate internal fracturing.  2.6 x 2.2 x 2.1 cm along its edges.  $120

OKK-649

OKK-649     Fluorite    Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Collected by Michael Walter.  Okay, so you want a matrix specimen instead of a free crystal.  Well here you go... the specimen measures 7 x 6 x 4.8 cm and has two cubes.  The one on very outer edge is damaged and could be trimmed off, but the one in the vug is beautiful and damage free.  It is approximately a cm on edge and pretty much water clear (maybe the slightest blue tint).  Gem throughout.  It shows wonderfully on the white dolomite crystals vs. a dolostone rock matrix.  Very desirable specimen.  $395

OKK-673

OKK-673    Celestine     Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.   Three diverging prismatic crystals measuring 4.7 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm.  It was once attached to matrix along its edge, now free, healed and partially coated with small dolomite crystals.  Transparent to translucent depending on area of crystals, high luster and very light blue tint.  No damage and only has broken contact at the very base of the crystal group as would be expected.  This species is less common than the popular fluorites and almost never seen in complete crystals from Walworth.  $225

OKK-592

OKK-592     Fluorite     Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  This cube is simply huge at 3.35 cm on edge! 3.8 x 3.3 x 3.1 cm overall.  Dawne was a specialist collecting fluorites and this was one of her small prizes.  The piece is repaired but it is well done and gives the overall appearance of a crack, which so many of these crystals have anyways.  No external damage.  The piece has the typical light baby blue tint and it is very clear in most all regions with minimal to moderate internal fracturing.  This is one of the largest of these crystals I have owned, and I have owned hundreds.  $800

OKK-582

OKK-582     Fluorite       Walworth Quarry (Dolomite Products Company, Inc.) Walworth, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  A beautiful, large cube with the noteworthy light blue color and some minor stepped growth.  Very transparent, gemmy, in almost all areas with only a couple of fractures internally.  This fine piece measures in at 2.4 x 2.3 x 2.2 on its edges.  This is exceptionally large and seldom seen for sale.  Nice views all around.  No damage.  Minimal base contact and a small amount of matrix and old Styrofoam.  Outstanding!  $800

OKK-583

OKK-583     Fluorite     Penfield Quarry, Penfield, Wayne County, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection. Circ. 1985.  Another monstrous fluorite that is such a rare thing to see for sale today.  It took me years to assemble the small number of crystals offered here.  Seldom are the big ones offered for any price, and if they are they are damaged or cost many thousands of dollars.  This crystal has an etched surface and a very light, almost unnoticeable, purple/ blue tint.  It measures 4.3 x 4.1 x 3.6 cm overall and is damage free.  Back and base show contact but front and side have fine views.  The Penfield crystals are even less common than the Walworth ones.  Great piece.  $600

OKF-602

Chipped corner close up

OKF-602     Fluorite     Penfield Quarry, New York.  Ex. Nancy Collins collection.  A 1.2 cm cube high up on a gray matrix.  The cube has a small corner chip so the price is substantially adjusted.  The color is a very light yellow and it is transparent with moderate internal fracturing.  8.5 x 5.5 x 4 cm overall but could be trimmed down to a miniature of very nice TN easily.  The matrix on which the crystal lies is fragmental and easy to work.  60$
