Until recently, collecting from this road cut has been limited since it was first exploited in the early 1960's.  At that time Dr. George Robinson (and others) collected many outstanding specimens of calcite from this site.

The Yellow Lake Road cut is found on a southern St. Lawrence county road north of Oxbow, New York.  In its heyday some wonderful specimens were collected here from large pockets.  Calcite is the primary mineral with dolomite occasionally being found in an epitactic association.   You can find here some good examples of the material from this classic north country location.

Here is the second in our series of articles on St. Lawrence County road cut occurrences.  Road Cut Minerals Occurrences of St. Lawrence County, New York Part II:  Yellow Lake
