OKP-973

OKP-973      Gypsum      Dewitt, Onondaga County, New York.  Ex. John Davis collection.  This piece is a single, water clear, twisted (naturally), prismatic gypsum crystal.  In total it measures 5.3 x 1.9 x 1 cm.  It has no damage viewing well from any direction.  It is by far the clearest example of one of these I have ever seen.  These are seldom seen for sale any longer and this one is exceptional.  If it was from Mexico it would cost almost nothing but being a rare and exceptional New York State piece that isn't the case.  $125

OKP-974

OKP-974     Chalcopyrite on Sphalerite     Picher Field, Ottawa County, Oklahoma.  Ex. John Davis collection.  This specimen is composed of very large sphalerite crystals with nice, even coatings of chalcopyrites.  What makes it really interesting is that the chalcopyrites are in epitaxy on the surfaces of the sphalerite crystals.  They are all lined up following the atomic structure of the underlying sphalerites.  This is an outstanding example of this interesting feature of crystal growth.  It measures 7.5 x 7.5 x 5.6 cm.  It sits on edge nicely for display and is free of any damage.  $175.

OKP-976

OKP-976     Realgar     Manhattan District, Nye County, Nevada.  Ex. John Davis collection.  The rich red crystals on this piece are very impressive for the location (up to 1.1 cm each).  Most of the crystals are doubly-terminated, translucent, a rich red color, dispersed evenly on the matrix, and show no alteration.  One group of crystal is damaged on one end and it appears one area had a couple small crystals that are now gone.  Overall, the specimen is in excellent condition and has been properly cared for.  This is obviously an old specimen given the locality but provenance before John is unknown.  $500
