March 2017 Update

OKO-713

Back or bottom

OKO-713     Herkimer Diamonds (Inclusions with all three states of matter... solid, liquid, and gas)      Ace of Diamonds Mine, Middleville, New York.  Collected by Scott Gordon, 2006.  This fine piece has been in my collection for quite some time.  It is composed of approximately 35 crystals of excellent quality and measures 17.5 x 12 x 5.5 cm overall with individual crystals to 6.5 cm each.  The piece is in excellent condition with only a couple of crystals showing some minor rubbing.  You'll have to search them out because they are far from noticeable.  The crystal on the far left in the first image had a large (approximately a cm wide and triangular in shape) enhydro with a movable gas bubble and attached chunk of anthraxolite.  Very impressive just for this unusual characteristic.  Views nicely back or front.  $900

OKN-704

OKN-704      Quartz on Stibnite     Lu Shi Mine, Hunan Province, China.  18 x 13.5 x 10 cm overall with stibnite blades to approximately 7 cm each.  There is some minor damage as seen, but as can be seen, the condition is very good, and the specimen displays beautifully.  This came out of China in the mid-1990s and now you do not see many stibnite specimens of this magnitude.  Terminations are great and the quartz is lustrous.  Lots of sparkle and appeal.   $1,300

OKN-705

Back

OKN-705      Quartz on Stibnite     Lu Shi Mine, Hunan Province, China.  13 x 7.5 x 6.8 cm overall.  Sawn flat on base so it sits nicely.  Several small areas of quartz are broke off but still a display worthy and interesting specimen.  $225

OKO-717

OKO-717     Calcite and Dolomite      Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Province, China.  A large piece with beautifully twinned calcites to 4.2 cm each.  The big ones are second generation crystals and, along with the stacks of tan colored dolomite crystals, rest on a bed of smaller, clear calcites.  The big twins are fantastic: the highest luster one could expect, very clear, sharply formed, and with the exception of a small edge rub on one, damage-free.  The entire piece is in excellent condition.  Sawn flat on base so it sits nicely.  We just don't see much coming from this important location any longer and this one is certainly a fine piece.  $475

OKO-719

OKO-719      Creedite     Navidad Mine, Durango, Mexico.  This location stopped production some time ago, but you can still find these important specimens available.  Great ones like this however have become exceedingly rare.  The size and quality of this piece are exceptional, and the price is about the same as a 3-5 cm cluster when they were first discovered.  It measures 26 x 18 x 8.5 cm overall.  As with any of these there are a few crystals missing, but not a lot as can be seen.  Both sides are crystallized but the side shown is the better of the two.  Why own a second rate piece of this uncommon mineral when you can own a killer like this.  $450

OKL-599

OKL-599     Quartz pseudomorph after Diopside      Ellis Farm, Macomb, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Michael Walter, 2015.  These examples are a first time find for this historic peristerite occurrence.  I'm not sure if they are encrustation pseudomorphs or complete replacements in that none that were found were broken.  In examples like these the once attached end is healed.  I suspect they are complete replacements.  All have sugary replacement textures of a glassy luster.  This on measures 3.6 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm.  Blocky termination.  No damage.  $20
