October 2019 Update

                                                                                                                       Tremolite Specimens

During late August of this year I had the privilege of purchasing some minerals from a regional field collector named Garrett Martin.  Earlier in the year he made a discovery in the township of Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York that included exceptional green tremolites.  Although most tremolite is not sought out as a "collector's specimen" these will be.  They rank among the finest known.  Their luster, transparency, and color are all exceptional.  Like most tremolite formed in metamorphic environments their terminations are usually poorly formed.  Unusual features sometimes present in these crystals include large gemmy areas suitable for faceting, fractures that have healed resulting in bent crystals, short "c" axis on doubly terminated crystals, and occasionally twinned crystals.  When you look in practically any book on minerals or mineralogy they mention St. Lawrence County as having some of the finest tremolite crystals known.  These are now among the best of those.

Please keep in mind that these specimens are NOT being backlit.

The crystals are more transparent than they appear.

OKR-148     Tremolite       Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3.8 x .8 x .7 cm.  It has a high degree of transparency, nice overall form, and well-formed terminations.  You will notice it is a bent crystal with numerous healed fractures along its length.  No damage.  An attractive example of this material.   $140

OKR-149

OKR-149     Tremolite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3 x 2.1 x 1.4 cm.  It has a moderate to high degree of transparency, excellent overall form, and unusually well-formed terminations.  There is one healed contact on the side of this floater.  No damage.  An attractive and unusually nice example of this material.   $180

OKR-150

OKR-150     Tremolite on Calcite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 4 x 3 x 2 cm.  The crystals are all highly transparent, have nice overall form, and have the typical poorly formed, crude, as well as nicely formed terminations.  Two crystals are broken off vs. being terminated.  An attractive example of this material.   $60

OKR-152

OKR-152     Tremolite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3 x .7 x .6 cm.  It has exceptional transparency, nice overall form, and has the typical crude terminations.  No damage.  This one is an exceptional little gem!    $170

OKR-153

OKR-153     Tremolite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3.5 x 1.1 x .8 cm.  It has excellent exceptional transparency much of which is masked by striations and prism surface features.  It has nice overall form, and has the typical crude terminations.  No damage.  A very fine example    $150

OKR-154

OKR-154     Tremolite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3 x 1.2 x .7 cm.  It has exceptional transparency, nice overall form, and has the typical crude terminations.  No damage.  This one is an exceptional piece!    $200

OKR-155

OKR-152     Tremolite in Calcite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3.4 x 2.9 x 1.6 cm.  The two crystals have exceptional transparency, exceptional overall form, and they have the typical crude terminations.  No damage.  This one is an very unique showing two gem matrix crystals that are healed and show dislocated sections.   $375

OKR-156

OKR-156     Tremolite      Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3 x .7 x .6 cm.  It has exceptional transparency (much better in person), nice overall form, and has the typical crude terminations.  No damage.  Exceptional.    $125

OKR-157

OKR-157     Tremolite       RESERVED       Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Garrett Martin, summer 2019.  This example measures 3 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm.  This is an unusual cluster of doubly-terminated crystals that have excellent to exceptional transparency, excellent overall form, and outstanding terminations.  No damage.  A very fine cluster.  Mounted on an acrylic plate.   $170
